Portraits

Not a style or subject that I tend to be drawn towards generally, but when Danielle Ross decided to move on from Dubrek Studios I spent a couple of months drawing her based on a photo I had taken in the beer garden the summer before. She’s in the lovely Pet Crow band so as music is a big thing in her life i went for a 12″ square so that I could fit it in a record sleeve frame.

It follows the general principle of the digital architecture style that I do, with sketch work outlines and watercolour/chalks underneath. The sketch lines are quite aggressive on a screen, but they softened out fantastically when printed out onto textured paper.

I’m quite pleased with the hair on this as there was no major blocking. I must have drawn a good few thousand individual strands from skull to tip in order to build it all up.
